Chefs Trading's Market Report for May, 2020. Read on for information on what is expected in our main supply chains as well as our FIP Funding model supporting social responsibility, sustainability and traceability in our supply chain.

While much of the demand around the globe has been impacted by stay at home orders and people just being safe and protecting one another as it should be, we are seeing some places like Colorado and some southern states opening back up all be it slightly. We hope they still stay safe and the opening goes well. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. 

The East coast is a mix but still lower demand everywhere as some states are reopening now or in the coming weeks. 

In Bermuda and other Caribbean islands in our supply chain they are just now opening restaraunts for pickup delivery and have been on very strict stay at home orders which has worked to slow the spread and lowered the death counts, good job islands! We look to see them getting back to normal in the coming weeks.

Costa Rica/Panama

The Yellowfin Tuna and Swordfish Fishery Improvement Project in Costa Rica now includes Mahi-mahi as well and is known as the Costa Rica Large Pleagic Longline Fishery Improvement Project. Chefs Trading in Costa Rica still looks to support efforts to foster positive change and move towards sustainability and eventual MSC certification in the Tuna/ Swordfish/Mahi-Mahi fishery. Contact us today to see how you can help support this and other FIPs.                                        

Yellowfin Tunas landing are coming back to shore to fill the lowered demand by Covid. We should see growing volumnes of quality landings. Fresh #1 and #2+ landings will continue to exceed quality expectations for both medium and 60+ YF Tunas.

Swordfish landings should increase this month with the in and out as they come in with the moon cycle.

Slik, Lane Snappers and Groupers volumnes should also increase with the warmer weather.

Maricultured Spotted Rose Snappers are still continuing to grow in popularity. Whole, Fillet and Butterfiled Fillets are available with a very long shelf life and perfect texture and flavor.

All products as usual are Traceable with our CT Tag which shows our supply chain distributors and the end consumer among other things where and how the product was caught as well as who caught it to ensure traceability that the product is caught legally and is associated with either sustainable methods or is helping the fishery move toward more sustainable practices via a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP)



We are proud to be a partner with CeDePesca and many other stakeholders and participants in the Mexican Grouper/Snapper Fishery Improvement Project(FIP). A portion of our sales from this fishery will go back to the fishery via the FIP to help support sustainability.

Grouper production is expected to consistantly increase which will cause pricing to continue to stabalize to normal levels.

Yellowtail and Lane Snappers should continue to have increased landings this month as well.

American Red Snapper volumnes are expected to decrease this month all be it slightly.
